S3 won't turn on, no splash screen or charging indicator

Last night I left my phone charging, as always. This morning, it was off, and shows no signs of life. It won't turn on, shows no charging indicator when plugged in, no lights, splash screen, nothing.

I took it to a cellphone repair shop and they said that it was a common problem with S3s and that they could flash new firmware for ?35, and it may or may not fix the problem.

What I've tried:
* Three different charging cables, using both a wall plug and my laptop as a power source
* Holding down the volume, power, and home buttons simultaneously
* Taking the battery out, leaving it for an hour, and trying again

With all the similar issues I've read about, it seems that most people's phones will at least get to the splash screen, and get stuck there.

Has anyone had a similar issue? And is it possible to flash a rom to the phone in this lifeless form?

Thanks for any help,

I've started with the exact same problem today - will let you know if anything happens! I've tried exactly what you've done, but no luck! :(

Which Volume button?
Volume Up + Home + Power = Recovery mode
Volume Down + Home + Power = Download mode

If you can't get the phone to boot into either of those modes you're pretty much SOL. If you had a JIG you could try that; otherwise the most likely solution is a JTAG service (just search online). Or Samsung repair.
