S4 i9505 won't read Indian SIM card?

Hey all, I recently came to India for a holiday, and for the time being I got an Indian SIM card from the provider IDEA. How ever my phone won't read the SIM card. I get the error message "No SIM card", now my phone back in Australia (home) does this a lot when it restarts, sometimes it has problems reading the card and a simple restart or two fixes the issue. However the IDEA card just will not be read, no matter the number of SIM cards. I thought maybe my phone was now permanently stuffed but when I put in the Australian SIM, although there is no service the phone recognises the card. I switched back to IDEA and again, nothing. Please help me and thank you.
