s5 active, message settings

I have tried to figure this out, from a locked screen when a new message comes in how do i set its priority so I am not having to back out of last text to respond to the new text so I don't respond to the wrong person. for clarity let me say it this way, when I receive a text the new one does not come up I have to back out to main messaging root to select the new message. thanks

If I understand your question correctly go to messaging app --- settings --- notifications and check "pop-up display" and "lock screen".
