S5 and MHL adapter

So what's the story on the MHL adapter?

The S3 required you use the Samsung branded adapter or it didn't work. IIRC Samsung used a different pinout from what's in the MHL spec, so you couldn't use generic MHL adapters. Samsung now sells a MHL 2.0 adapter supposedly supporting the updated standard. Does the S5 still use the Samsung pinout or does it use the standard pinout?

I bought a £10 MHL adapter from a supermarket and it works fine with my S5 and LG TV.

I tried multiple rocketfish versions of the MHL adapter and they did NOT work. Samsung version does.
