1) got my phone feb 2015. started having issues first month (would turn off randomly... reboot.. not a real issue and didn't do it frequently enough for me to bring it in.. eventually stopped happening other than the random time)
2) oct 2015: downloaded new update. phone started the same issue but +++ in frequency. got to the point where sometimes would re-start but loop (got to second Samsung loading screen then crash, vibrate and start again), I would take out battery re-start it then it would work (crashing at random intervals)
3) what I tried: clearing cache thru recovery mode (no change); I tried re-starting in safe mode to rule out app causing issue (no change); I wiped all date, factory reset. no change EXCEPT now I can't even get the phone to turn on past recovery mode (was at one point but then it crashed..and haven't been able turn on fully since)
4)I brought phone into my provider who said they couldn't do anything about it because there is a tiny crack on the top (ahh I didn't even drop it, i put my ipod and phone together screen to screen and the top crack :@ really wishing i brought my phone in that first month....)
5)brought my phone to Samsung.. who says my warranty is voided as my phone is rooted.... HOLD UP rooted? NO, i never rooted my phone (jailbroke my previous iphone, that thing did nothing i wanted. but my Samsung was great) -->i know it wasn't a quick couple buttons pressed to jailbreak so assuming rooting can't just accidently happen
6) i know how to check in download mode if my phone is rooted and sure enough.. it shows up as rooted... BULLS%#& i called up this speciality store and the guy says he has seen this before where a phone shows up at rooted when it isn't after a full reset...but can do nothing for me.

HELP! what do i do now?? (before you ask NO i didn't root it, never lent it out, no one had access to phone but me)
1)i could pay to have the crack fixed? then they would even consider taking a look at it..
2) should i really root it?? will that help?
3) ?????suggestions??

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 41 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 6 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1, Android 5.0.2 and Android 5.1.1. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone INFO ?Samsung? and it will give you, under Firmware ... PDA, CSC and Baseband, versions as well as your Product code under the CSC CODE heading.

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

You have the carrier minority variant for Canada, G900W8.

You could download the latest firmware, Android 5.1.1 , for your carrier and flash it to your phone by carefully following the instructions and video contained in the links of #1.11 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide to see if that will boot your phone and resolve your issues.

Are you in Canada? Who is your carrier? Where did you purchase the phone? I'm in Canada on Bell and bought my phone directly from them.

As @ironass states, you SHOULD have the G900W8 if you're in Canada on a Canadian carrier. We just got the 5.1.1 Lollipop upgrade last month.

Re-flashing with stock firmware would be the first thing Samsung would do. You may have had a corrupt update and this would fix it. Providing you have not rooted your phone or messed with the .PIT or bootloader files, then this should get you up and running. Here is the latest stock Samsung firmware for Bell, Canada...

Model SM-G900W8
Model name GALAXY S5
Country Canada (Bell Mobile)
Version Android 5.1.1
Changelist 5793883
Build date Fri, 11 Sep 2015 08:59:55 +0000
Product code BMC
PDA G900W8VLU1COI4
CSC G900W8OYA1COI4

You'll need to create a new account on SamMobile, then start your download. You don't have to pay (the free account is just a LOT slower), just hit the file and wait it out. Good luck!

I had the same issues and also purchased my phone in Feb 2015. I called Samsung customer service and the representative was great. He emailed me a shipping label and I shipped the phone to Samsung in Plano TX at their cost. I received an email that the phone was received and it included a link that gave me a detailed description of everything they've done. The phone is expected to be delivered to me tomorrow from UPS again at no cost to me. Hopefully I won't have an issue again. The S5 was great before this issue. It doesn't hurt to call Samsung and explain what's going on. Their number is 1-800-726-7864. I hope this helps.
