I have the S5 on Verizon. Got a software update this morning. Looks like just the security patch. Now shows security patch of January 1, 2017. Build # is now: MMB29MG900VVRS2DQA1. Base band is now: VVRS2DQA1. Change list is: 8025411. Everything went well. I also did a wipe cache partition. :)

I also got the update today, but my phone won't recognize any apps on my sd card and it randomly restarts. I also wiped my cache. Maybe that will help.

Apps from sd card are all loaded and the phone seems to have settled down. Hope it stays that way!

Dang. You guys are lucky to have a carrier that cares about their their customers and provides them with these Samsung security updates when Samsung gives them to them. I haven't seen a security update since June of last year on my FIDO Samsung Galaxy S5. And even that one was only the first half of the April 2016 one. It's pathetic. I almost want to say it's malfeasant for carriers like FIDO to operate that way with people who buy these so called flagship devices. Seems like they just want us to buy a new phone from them in order to have any security updates so I guess they won't let us have the Samsung security updates when they are provided them by Samsung for that opportunist reason. Which, I suspect, just means that they view themselves as Samsung's customer rather than us regular people.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that at least some carriers are concerned with customer security and are providing customers with those security updates on the S5 when Samsung releases them.
