S7 discharge rate (Doze not working?)

This is a follow up of an older thread here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge/650264-galaxy-s7-edge-doesnt-have-doze.html
Looks like no one follows that one anymore and I'm late to the conversation.

The S7 is the best phone I've ever owned, but it's not without some niggles. Chief among them right now is the fact that I don't think Doze is doing its job. When my phone reaches 100%, the pops up a notification constantly, buzzes, and lights up the screen to tell me that it's at 100%. Thanks, phone, good for you. But it's 2AM and I don't need you to do that. So I unplug and go to sleep. By morning, the battery has discharged what I consider to be a higher than normal amount.

My carrier is T-Mobile, I have Do Not Disturb on, I've closed out of all apps, I don't have a smartwatch (or any bluetooth connection at all).

With Always On Display active, the battery discharges 2.48% per hour.
With AOD disabled, the battery discharges 2.22% per hour.

Going over my battery graph, it never shows any of the plateaus that you associate with Doze kicking in. Is this normal? Has anyone had better results?

Turn off sync and see if it's any better. You might have apps running in the background. I got about 45 to 50 minutes per 1% with aod running and 1 hour and 45 minutes with it off.

Do you have any alarms set for the morning? I wonder if that will prevent Doze from kicking in, because maybe that would prevent the alarm from sounding at the proper time.

Same here! More drain overnight than I'd ideally like. Except I have the Exynos S7.

OK, today I've made some changes:

  • Turned off "Scan for nearby devices". I know it's supposed to be BLE, but I turned it off anyway.
  • Told it not to keep wifi on during sleep
  • Told it not to scan for wifi networks
  • Told it not to connect to Hotspot 2.0
  • Re-enabled AoD (cause I like it)

It's now dropped 11% in 90 minutes and that's with me using it to answer calls and check email. Seems like a lot of the features used to make it more connected also keep it from every going into Doze mode. My battery usage once again has those little plateaus where it goes to sleep.

I'll charge it to 100% again tonight and let it sit as I sleep. I'll update this thread with the battery consumption in the morning.

Those are definitely not normal figures, just for comparison's sake mine drains about 0.8%/hr with AOD off, and just a little under 2%/hr with AOD on. Try a factory reset.

Doze definitely not working here, what could be causing this?

Hi guys, any clarity on whether having a Fitbit paired with the phone disables Doze? I have enabled call notifications, so my fitbit buzzes when my phone rings, however I have kept the all day sync and always connected feature off - how do I even tell if the Doze is working on my phone?

I'm going to charge up my battery and post a screenshot of the battery usage page tomorrow morning when I wake up, in case anyone here can tell by that :)

Keeping an eye on this thread. My phone drains quite a bit when I'm at work and I hardly touch it. Used to be around 70% when I left the office at 530pm, now it's usually around 50% or less. Biggest drainers are 'Android System', 'Google Play services', 'Android OS', then 'Cell Standby'.

For example, my screen on time is only 43 minutes today and the battery is at 57%. I might be in a sort of low signal area, but I still have 3 bars of 4G, so it can't be that bad.

There's a known bug where Google's Backup My Data under Settings>Backup and Reset prevents Doze. Just disable that.

Yeah, this is a bit worrying. My battery life has suddenly gone down; not sure if it is connected but the timing of the deterioration has sort of coincided with the update I received a few days back.

I have disabled the automatic backup now; let's see if there's an improvement!

If any of you are using Tasker, if you have the Use Reliable Alarms set to When Off or Always, it can prevent Doze from working.

If you really want to know whether or not Doze is being kicked in, install GSam battery monitor. That will tell you for sure. When Doze is working properly, your phone should only lose about .5% battery per hour, 1% per hour at most I would say... With AOD off past couple nights I'm down to 2% total loss overnight (about 8 hours)

Also, I highly recommend ForceDoze. It will enable Doze mode immediately (or after a user-defined delay) when you turn off your screen and you can set it up to disable motion sensing also, that way it will stay in Doze even if you move your phone around, like carrying it in your pocket. Greenify has a similar Aggressive Doze feature but your phone has to lay still for about 9-10 minutes before it will kick in.

I lose between 2-3% per hour on my phone when it's not in use so I guess according to you that means my Doze feature isn't working

Well obviously it'll vary from phone to phone. But my experience, I was losing 2% per hour overnight and in the battery stats it showed a levelling out, but not quite completely level. During this time I was under the impression that was Doze working. But after reading others experiences saying they were losing less than 1% an hour with Doze, I decided to install GSam and found out Doze wasn't ever kicking in. Losing 2% an hour for me was nothing more than my phone just being idle. Once I found the culprit (Tasker for me), Doze always registers in GSam and I'm down to 0.3 - 0.5% an hour at most.

I'm just saying, just because your phone has a slight leveling out in the battery settings, that doesn't mean Doze is actually working. Only way to know for sure is something like GSam

I have gsam and have no idea what is causing me to lose battery. My phone reads 35% for Android OS and the highest cause of my battery. I wish I could figure out what was causing it

When turning of Google's Backup My Data, what information is no longer being backed, practically speaking. I read the description the phone gives, but when would I ever want or use whatever that data is on a daily basis? How might it be different than my cloud backups through Verizon?

Most of it is just little things like a few Google settings, possibly WiFi passwords and stuff. Some apps allow for Google data backup of their data, but not all. The built in Samsung Data backup also does the same things but with Samsung account instead of Google, and a backup made with SmartSwitch + Helium backs up more stuff anyway.

How did you find the culprit? Going through a similar issue but GSAM doesn't seem to be letting me find out!
