S7 Edge - High battery usage and random installs

Hello,

Lately my device is experiencing very high battery usage in a short period of time. As in, it will decrease from 80% to 2% in 5 hours time while being idle.
I tried tracking the usage using the built in battery performance app but all it shows is that 17% of the usage is by the OS with no breakdown of what exactly in the OS.

Additionally, overnight I woke up to a message saying 'installation successful' even though I had not set anything to install and my app settings and software update settings are set for manual installs only.

Is there anywhere on the phone where app installs are logged? Is there a better app to track down battery usage?

Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

You might have to install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.

Regarding the installation message -- use a file manager app to look directly in the /Download directory, and see if there are any suspicious apk files there.

Attaching screenshots here. I didn't find #4 on your list though.
Also including 3 additional screenshots which seem relevant since the OS is showing as the major battery consumer.

Hmm, nothing jumps out at me in those screenshots, except the fact that apps in general are using a big portion of battery. But no app in particular stands out, except for System and Kernel.

You cell signal indicator in the screenshots looks good, but it would still be good to see the Cell Signal Strength graph in GSam, just to rule that out completely. If it spends a lot of time in medium to low, that can contribute.

Do either the native Battery menu or GSam allow you to look at the apps that are keeping the phone awake?

No neither of them show that - I looked at the signal strength graph and that's mostly high. I'm going to install Wakelock Detector Lite. That might show the apps keeping it awake.

Installed WLD and this is the most useful screenshot (I think) of the lot but unfortunately it doesn't tell much. From what I've seen online, this is just the cumulative wakelocks and there is no way to drill deeper in this app.
I see there is paid app which can do that but not sure if worth it.
I deleted the cache; perhaps that will fix it
