S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

Hey all,
I bought an S7 Edge almost 2 weeks ago and for the most part the phone has been perfect. But I did have some problems, mainly anytime I would use the "IHeart Radio" app the phone would restart and while that was annoying I just dealt with it. However now, am I'm not sure they are related, neither the recent apps (or multi-task) button nor the settings button in the tray at the top doesn't work. Also, I hear notifications come in like texts or news alerts however they don't show in the tray when I pull it down.

I've done a bit of googling up to this point with nobody else experiencing quite what I have and was wondering if anybody else has had these problems, or if anybody knows a fix.

Just so you know I've uninstalled any apps that I had installed just prior to the issue starting, and yes I've restarted.

Thanks for any help.

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

Dude this just happened to me today! My Recents Button & Home Button do not work when I tap on them! Similar issue with my notification bar. I can pull it down, but the settings button does not work, the down-arrow does not work, and my notifications will not show up on there or even on the lock screen but I can hear them coming in! I also can't access Developer Options after I turned it on! It says: Developer options are not available for this user.

It started when all of a sudden my volume notification started acting up. Then it seems like my phone did some sort of reset & the screen flashed. The setting came on where every tap on the screen made a noise (never had that turned on), my Recents & Back button light up again after I installed the Galaxy Button app that turns them off, when I press & hold the power button I now see only 2 options instead of 3 (shut down & restart). I can still go into settings through the settings app but not from the notification pull down menu button.

Yesterday, I was using AZ Screen Recorder to screen record while split-screening a video on Chrome & video chatting on FB's Messenger App while downloading a video and all of a sudden the phone glitched out on me. AZ Screen Recorder wouldn't stop recording, then my screen went black, and next thing I know my phone did a factory reset. I did another factory reset after that just incase. Now today I get this issue.

WTF is going on with my phone???

Verizon Black GS7 Edge.
No root.
I use Greenify on some system apps but nothing that I think is critical.
Made the SD Card to Adoptable Storage mixed 50/50.
I had the "Protect encrypted data" option turned on.
I get the same issues even in Safe Mode.

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

Holly **** I fixed everything!!!!

I tried what this website says but I could not change my phone's mode from "Charging" to "Software installation" so the following option did not work:
How To Fix Missing Home And Recents Buttons, And Notification Shade That Refuses To Pull Down After Android Update

So I went to this website where that fix was originally posted: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+PaulOBrien/posts/8EGNvpY9jQa

And I followed what the user Mike Tompkins said: "Did this using nova launcher. Long press home screen choose shortcut, activities, setup wizard, setup wizard test activity. Creates shortcut, open follow directions. Not sure if it really helps. Didn't have issue."

And it worked!!

Here's the fix, being broken down dummy style:
1) Download Nova Launcher & set it as default to replace TouchWiz.
2) Long press on the home screen.
3) Choose Widgets.
4) At the top, under Nova Launcher, scroll to the right & press & hold on Activities and place it somewhere empty on the home screen.
5) Scroll down to Setup Wizard. I saw 2 Setup Wizard options.
6) Under the first Setup Wizard option, I opened it & scrolled down to the 3rd choice which said ".SetupWizardTestActivity". It might be in a different spot for you, but look at the small writing, that's how I saw this one.
7) Select that to create the widget shortcut.
8) Open it. Apparently you're supposed to have a menu to go through and just click through "Next", but there wasn't one for me.
The screen just flashed and then next thing you know, everything works!

Thank you to the geniuses that found this solution!!

OMG THIS TOTALLY WORKED!!

Sorry for the caps, but this made my wife think I was a hero again!!

But, how did this happen? And will it happen again? And, can I get rid of the Nova Launcher and go back to Touchwiz?

Thanks very much! :D

Lmao it's all good I was really excited too!!

I have no idea how or why this happened unfortunately... I've been using Nova Launcher since I had the phone so idk if you have to stay on it or not, but I would say that yes you can uninstall Nova Launcher & go back to TouchWiz

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

Tremendous!!!!!!!! My S7 recents button hasnt worked in 2 days. The battery drain was unbelivable and Ive been getting very few notifications. In fact, I just walked out of a Sprint Store in SanFran where the techs had already left for the day... and I'm flying overseas tomorrow. I was very bummed about it, then I found this thread. 🌟⭐🌟WINNER🌟⭐🌟 Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

Thanks for posting this. I spoke with the Samsung technical person and they wanted me to go to Best Buy and have them factory reset my phone. I knew that wasn't the answer.

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

Yes you can probably remove Nova, but why? As a launcher it's miles better than TouchWiz, and you won't be losing functionality.

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

The widget has now a permanent place on my screen, if anything goes wrong again. I am wondering, how do people figure these kinds of stuff? BTW, totally worked on my Nexus 6.

This doesn't work for me on my partners moto xplay. I'm now stuck on the setup screens. Clicking next does nothing as it goes through all the options then just starts again. Switching the phone off restarts it into this setup.... Help!

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

This thing happened in my SGNote 4! I still have to try this but I'm using nova launcher on all my phones so its OK for me. Will get back to this thread and hopefully will work! Fingers crossed. BTW. .. With this stiff happening on my phone... It has conserved the battery so well! Not sure why but it did. Probably coz i never used it coz i didn't read any notifications that came in!

Re: S7 Edge not showing notifications in tray and "recent apps" button and settings button dnt work

Wow! What the hell just happened? Whats with nova launcher helps with or phone? Wow! That's amazing! Thanks very much everyone! This one worked for me.
