S7 phone screen dims then blacks when on call.

Since oreo update: My samsung S7 screen dims then goes black after 10 seconds on a phone call. I have timeout set at 10 minutes. It does it in safe mode as well.
Any Help would be appreciated, this is really stupid and annoying.

Dimming could be due to auto sscreen brightness setting. this uses a front sensor too see how much light there is and adjusts the brightness accordingly. The screen going black is for when you are holding it against your ear when calling. you wont be looking at the screen anyway and this way you wont be pressing any buttons accidentally. Holding the phone in a horizontal position should fix that.

Thank you Simejah. Auto brightness feature was and is turned off and this happens all the time including horizontal lying on a desk.
