Would you take the Active version of the S8 over the initial S8 and S8 Plus? If so - why?

I would! I would like the flat screen, better drop protection, and the larger battery. The S8s should be what the active is, in my opinion.

Too bad I'm not on AT&T. :-

Would definitely pick up the Galaxy S8 Active 😃

Looks are important to me but having stellar battery life and being a little more "life proof" is #1 .

Especially when traveling and you don't always have charging sources. (Camping and such)

Absolutely! Been running an S7 Active since Samsung took away my initial Note 7 and my Replacement Note 7 and I actually like it! I am still going to take a long look at the Note 8 when it arrives in September and compare it to the S8 Active before making a decision because I do miss the Note features, however... the BIG battery does the trick for me. I went back to my Note 5 at first and could not deal with the battery life after having the Note 7, even for the short time that we had them! The S7 Active has been awesome!!!

Yup! Shame they wait months (after the main devices) before the release it! I have poor impulse control and delay gratification.... :-)

Waiting patiently for the S8 Active. I'm with Matty, I need the tough case and larger battery for camping and hiking; heck, just life in general. :)

The flat screen and other S8 flagship spec goodness will be more than enough to justify getting it as my next phone. I will follow the reviews of the Note 8 closely, but it's not in the running for me at this point.

I'm not positive but the Active line seems like it gets updates slower if that matters to you.

That's correct. That's the major down fall of all past Active devices. However, this may be a different story if they plan to release an unlocked version.

I have actually never tried the Active before since it was always an AT&T exclusive -- but I have wanted to just to see how it is.

They're saying that they will be offering them elsewhere later, but no details. I think it reads "Exclusively at AT&T for a Limited Time Only" which they have never done in the past so... there's some hope?

Yeah that is the very vague part .. Sure it may go elsewhere but to who? GSM only carriers like AT&T or will there be one for people on VZW and such? Definitely curious to know what they meant.

...and after I typed my post, I went and tried to find what I read - do you think I could find it again???

"Early leaks of the Galaxy S8 Active revealed that it won't have AT&T branding, and there's a good reason for that. The carrier has exclusive access to the device "for a limited time," but the phone will be available to non-AT&T customers at a later date. There's also the possibility that Samsung will sell it unlocked directly."

That's the best I could do!
