Hello, my S8 locked up the other day. I tried to restart and it went into a loop that seemed like it was going to start, but then restarted again on it's own and continued restarting, more like a restart loop. I powered it off for a bit then tried again with the same results & it eventually it settled on the recovery screen. It now reliably starts with the following sequence:

loops through the Galaxy S8 screen then Samsung screen 5 times then the blue Android installing system update screen then quickly goes to the recovery screen with the options I can scroll through using the volume buttons.

I have wiped cache and did a factory reset from here with no change. It also reliably turns off.

It has locked up once before, maybe 6 months ago or longer but was fine after a hard restart.

I'd normally take this for repair in the US, but am currently in New Delhi, India.

Suggestions?

Thank you. After a bit of homework to learn how to do this (and a 3gb download on hotel internet :p ) I did not have success. Screen captures attached. There was no visible activity on the phone during the process

Firmware file used: G950U1UEU1AQG2_G950U1OYM1AQG2_ATT_4file

Hello is that the latest firmware file ?
Where did you get it from?

Might have to go that way but no Att firmware with frija but that's ok can use TMobile

Should I be looking for a different firmware version & where is a good source? Frija won't open on my tablet, says I need c++ (or something to that effect)

Try SamMobile website , use TMB (TMobile ) firmware the latest since you have unlocked version and they are all the same , which Odin version your using?

Initially I tried 3.09 (I think) since that was recommended would work for older phones on the odin download page. When that didn't work, I went with the latest, 3.14

Downloading now, could take a bit

Part way there, success getting the phone to boot and begin the setup process, but stuck at connecting to wifi. Error says "Unable to sign in . . . unauthorized factory reset . . . sign in screen can not be accessed." Yes, I did that reset (bad girl). I'm not given the option to skip even when I choose Skip on the "bring your data from a previous device" page.

I have not yet inserted the old sim card, thought I'd get the thing going first. I'm a bit hesitant to remove the sim from my backup phone. I'm in India for another week & it's my only means of communication while on the street.

As to how I got to reboot, could be one of two things as I committed the sin of making 2 changes at once so I'm not sure what did it:
1. since I'm working from a tablet with only one usb, I plugged in the adapter I use for my 4k monitor that utilizes both the usb A and C slots. It's a not inexpensive adapter that also has additional usb, usb c, ethernet, sd slots, etc.
2. I couldnt get it to reboot to the screen pictured previously (press power/volume down/home). Instead, got to the download page from the Android Recovery screen using the reboot to bootloader option. The screen was slightly different, void of the dos type text and the warning about installing firmware.
