The S8 is supposed to have a "Force touch" area at the bottom middle of the display for the home button. I am just wondering: isn't this infringing on Apple's patent? Could Samsung get sued again?

The homebutton had to go once in for all due to the screen to body ratio the s8 is to have which obviously means bezel reduction and it does kinda suck because the homebutton was a staple feature of all these galaxy phones but instead you get a pretty design so i wouldnt complain

Interesting. Well it seems like only a small portion of the device is able to have this 'Force Touch' ability so they may get away with it. Also Samsung may be supplying some screen to Apple for their next iPhone so maybe a deal was done between them?

The use of pressure-sensitive software keys on the Galaxy S8 would answer a few major usability questions. --- The key component that Samsung appears to lack, however, is Apple's advanced haptic system.

The entire reason I'm considering getting a Sammy again is because that physical home button is gone.

Yeah, I like on-screen buttons more. With physical buttons, I have to shift my phone in my hand, then apply pressure to the button to activate the function, thus risking dropping the phone especially if it's large like the S7...

If that thing at the back is the fingerprint, do they really need a "force touch" home button? For me, normal onscreen buttons will do.

got force touch means able to have additional function if you press harder? I'm hoping the double tap fast camera launch can still work

Good point. I find that function very convenient. I wonder how they will pull this off without a home button.

So without the home button, I read that the double tap to fast open the camera will be through the
power button. I am sure I will get used to that but anything that slows down the camera opening
is a concern of mine, since my two year old grandson moves at warp speed. But I am glad they went with the onscreen home button.

Can you post a link? I'm up for some good reading.
