S8+, Note 8, or stick with my Note 5?

Samsung has some pretty crazy deals on the S8+. I could get the S8+ for $290, and or a Note 8 for 610 on Verizon when I trade in my current Note 5. Both comes with IconX ear buds worth "$200". I like my Note 5, but it's a three year old phone. It still works fine, but the battery could use only get me around 2.5 hours of on screen time which bugs me. What do you guys think of the S8+? Do you miss your Notes with It? Or is it similar enough and/or superior?

I'm mostly attracted to this offer cause I'd get $350 for my Note 5 when I'd be lucky to get half that on EBay like I usually do. Plus it's a brand new phone instead of used.

I do use my pen for messing around and making memes now and then. If that's the only main difference, I think it might be worth it to get the plus instead.

Well that, the dual cameras, and 6GB vs 4GB of RAM.

You can have your battery replaced on that note 5. But if you're in the market for something new I suggest a + model or note 8.
I find the new 6.2" screens are just the right size if one likes a bigger phone. Note users probably feel the same.

I can't quantify it but for some reason the pen experience is so much better that what I remember with the Note 4 I had a couple years ago. Although I just got the phone yesterday so I'm still playing.

Right? It's a neat add on. I just hoped someone can justify the Note 8 cause it's 300 more. I guess I could always just order and return it if it's not all I've dreamed of lol

You can find plenty reviews about the note 8 compared with the s8+. If you're a pen user then note 8 is the better choice. If you can live without the pen s8+ is as good and cheaper. You get 0.1" more screen on the note 8 and it's a tad longer in feeling.
Overall it's slightly faster. But the upcoming s9+ will probably beat that also.

I went from the Note 5 to the Note 8 in September of 2017. I am very happy with the note 8. The dual camera gives you great pictures. The ability to utilize 6 gigs of ram is nice. It sounds like you have a possible good deal in upgrading to the note 8. I would take it.

I went from the Note5 to the S8+ and have had no regrets. I found that I didn't use the S-Pen that much. S8 + is an awesome phone.

IMO that sale price you're seeing is already great.

Waiting for the S9 can have you missing out on a great offer. I agree though that there may be better offers once the S9 comes out, but it's a risk you'll have to take. Personally in your situation I'll take the S8+ and Gear Icon X now, provided it's the 2018 version if the Icon X we're talking about.

I pulled the trigger and purchases it.i guess I won't get a better deal of a 700$ phone for $290 minus this sweet ear buds. Lots of great input thank you all. Now back down the endless rabitthole of finding a new case, tempered glass, new charging cables.. ect

You won’t regret it unless you used the S-pen so much that you’ll miss it. Last July I made the same Note 5 to S8+ switch. The S8+ offers a nicer image, camera and speed.

Not talking about raw PQ but so far this is the best smartphone camera I have ever used. The Note8 just gets the shot with such little effort. I imagine the S8/S8+ are the same.

Totally agree about form factor of Note 5. Don't know why, but it felt great in hand... Still love my S8 Plus though.

S8 plus is a good phone, but note 8 is more then just a added pen, that extra ram makes a difference and i was one that was always saying it wouldn't. I don't use my pen a lot, but when I do I'm glad I have it.

That's about right. Better to have and not need then to need and not have. But overall I prefer the note line. It's just a refined s line device with upgrades and a pen. For my money I can't go wrong.
