S8+ txt messages arrive hours later?

This has been an issue for us on all our Samsung phones from Note 4 thru S8+ and S9... txt messages sent via Samsung's default Messaging app arrive many minutes or even hours later. This makes "instant messaging" useless when we're trying to locate one another or make plans with friends about where to meet. Mobile Data is on 100% of the time now that our plans are unlimited. FWIW, MeWe messaging works as it's supposed to, instantly...

AT&T is the carrier, things are a bit better now that we have wifi-calling enabled... but some days we drive down the road towards town and get a flood of messages ... ... ...

we're just in the habit now of using MeWe for messaging between us..

sometimes in a group chat the messages will stop and I just have to wait until the phone decides to bring them in it's very frustrating

doesn't matter if I'm on wifi or not and doesn't matter if full signal or not just a weird thing that happens

I'm on a Factory Unlocked Galaxy S8 from the US store Best Buy and my carrier is verizon

Very late reply here, things are much better with rapid response times since we switched to MintMobile. They use T-Mobile's towers which are closer in range to our home neighborhood...
