Android Central Question

I’ve been told that S8s are now manufactured as ‘unlocked’ by Samsung, as in any network sim will work. can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks

They always have... it's when they make carrier versions that the lock is implemented. To the best of my knowledge, the only carrier version that's 'unlocked' by default is Verizon's.

International S8's are unlocked (but 'soft locked' per region, so you do need to place a call first in the region it was intended for sale).

Also, for what it's worth, any devices sold in Canada after Dec 5 2016 are now SIM unlocked and will function with any compatible carrier.

It is that way in USA just pay the phone off in full and it will get unlocked in a few day's don't even have to contact carrier.

Don't know if the confusion with Samsung unlocking things came from the news today that they're unlocking and including FM chips in all future phones
