Totally perplexed on this.

I have a Verizon S8 and my friend has a Sprint Note 8.

I cannot use Google Assistant from the AOD screen, but he can with his Note 8. Even his Google settings are different than mine. His Note 8 has "Trusted Device" setting and my S8 does not.

I would sure like to be able to use Google Assistant from the AOD screen ... I've read a few posts on here saying that you just simply can't on a non-Google device.

What is going on here? We both have Samsung Galaxy phones but the Google settings are different?? Doesn't make sense to me. I've included a screen shot of my Google voice settings and his Note 8 Google Voice settings.Screenshot_20170929-175551.jpgScreenshot9520170929-183349.jpg

I have a Verizon s8 and my Google settings look like your friends note 8. Using Ok Google while the screen is locked sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I gave up on figuring it out a while ago.

The note 8 is able to unlock with Google Assistant. The Samsung s8 however is not able to do this. It's so frustrating.

Because carriers like to alter the settings in their phones for various reasons.

This is just beyond frustrating. Can't leave Verizon because I prefer their network ... can't get an unlocked phone because I don't want to be without Wi-Fi Calling & Visual Voicemail .... and Verizon "gimps" my device by taking away Enhanced Messaging, gimping my Google settings, and who knows what else they've done to my device that I haven't discovered yet.

I also have trusted voice switch on my unlocked S8. OK Google will not, however, unlock phone from the AOD screen.

As someone previously posted, and I definitely concur because I've witnessed it, OK Google unlocking the device from the AOD screen is only available on Note 8 (as far as Samsung devices go).

1) "Trusted Voice" has to be present
2) The verbage you're looking for is, "Say OK Google any time. Your device recognizes your voice when you say OK Google, even if the screen is off or you're using your favorite apps"

I also know this because I briefly owned a Note 8 until I decided it was too big and exchanged for the S8.

..... and definitely does not work on my S8

Why would you only see this feature on the Note 8 and not the Galaxy S phones? I don't get it. I kinda gave up on trying to figure it out.

Can confirm, I have a VERIZON Note 8 and it allowed me to activate assistant and unlock the phone from the AOD without touching a single button.

People with S8/S8+... Don't give up. With Oreo you can unlock from AOD using "OK Google" just like you can on the Note 8 . Works fine on the Oreo Beta.

YES - I had always thought it was a device thing, but it's not - it's an Oreo thing :). I've since gone to a Pixel 2XL, but this whole topic was maddening when I still had my S8.
