S8+ with Gear VR 2016

Hi everyone, so I got my s8+ today and was wondering does the 2016 Gear VR work with the S8+?

I think so. Not 100% sure but I would hope they wouldn't promo it with the 8+if it didn't work. I registered for my vr today and it said 6 to 8 weeks!

Dont try anymore unless you want to damage your phone and Gear VR. S8 uses USB type C and previous phones uses micro USB

It won't work with the plus definitely too tall. I was disappointed with it myself.

That explains it I'll take it back because this is the one that store gave me with the phone. Should change it for the 2017 model.

There is an adapter in the box with the 2016 VR.

No there isn't - at least there was not in mine which I got when the 2016 was first shipped with the S7.


And I think that the S8 USB type B to USB type C adapter will make the S8 too big to fit into the Gear VR 2016 (a dangerously tight squeeze at best for the S8+, I'll try my S8 later today and update - UPDATE - No: Not a chance of it fitting)


The New Gear VR 2017 has a changeable adapter which can be switched from USB Type C to USB Type B, so it is backwardly compatible. Apparently this is the same as the Gear VR that was shipped for the Ill fate Note 7, so I am going to refer to this as the Gear VR 2017 for the sake of brevity.

The 2016 version - at least the one that came with the Note 7 - also has a changeable adapter (USB Type C and USB Type B), but even with the adapter the phone won't fit. I can't even get it into the adapter for some reason.

I just used my s8+ in the 2016 vr it was a really tight squeeze but it works! As long as you have the USB C adapter it came with you should be good.

Is this the USB C adapter that the S8+ came with, or the one that the Note 7 2016 Gear VR came with?

Theres 3 versions of gear VR.

If you are trying the white one it will not work. Only the 2016 model (Black) and up will work.

I registered on shop last week and still no response other than saying approved.

I have a 2016 Gear Vr that came with the USB C adapter in the box. I had no success with my s8plus. It was too tall but if you guys are saying you got it to fit then ill try it again.
