Is anyone else not that impressed with this new chip. Seems like QC topped out on the M8 SOC.

I hear you only because it's was over hyped by HTC, Am nt impressed by sound ov it people sayin only getting 4hrs on screen time 12hrs sot dats bad, I have HTC m9 i gets 6hrs on screen 24hr sot, I must say I am rooted tho running viperone 4.3.0 rom before I was rooted on the m9 the battery was really terrible with heating I would only get about 3 half hrs on screen time not even that n 9hrs sot I was really disappointed I wanted to get rid ov it and go back to m8 then I rooted it and flashed viperone rom now my m9 battery lasts all day long so the 10 will be better 100 so dats why I don't let reviews who talk negative get me thinking negative about HTC cause they said m9 had problems but wen I rooted 9 all my/the problems were fixed, thanks to the best rom developers viperone who only developes HTC roms!

Let me repeat. The M8 battery life is better than the M9 and seemingly the M10 at launch. I was kind of holding out for this 820 because I thought it would be a vastly better SOC battery wise. It still seems to burn through the battery while you are using which is disappointing. This isn't just a HTC thing. I am noticing this for other OEMs with this SOC. This isn't just a HTC thing. I am noticing this for other OEMs with this SOC. My M9 was at 3 to 3.5 hours on Lollipop and 3.5 to 4 hours on Marshmallow stock. So this doesn't really strike me as much of an improvement.

Isn't the point that it's faster? In that regard, I'm very impressed. I personally don't expect battery life to get better with a more powerful chip, I sort of expect the opposite until the technology changes a big step.

I'm no expert but from what I've read, newer SoCs built using smaller process technology will use less power for a given speed frequency. SD 800/801 is 28nm and SD820 is 14nm so a huge difference. But I imagine there are lots of other changes in there which may increase or decrease power consumption.

SD800 (in my LG G2) was a pretty damn good SoC though.

I think the biggest battery killer is that 2K screen. Really not needed in my opinion. M8 had 1080p which was fine at this size. A lot of the Chinese branded phones have stuck with 1080p as they are not as well optimised as HTC or Samsung or LG especially with their heavy UI so 2K would have been a disaster for them. I think if HTC, Samsung etc stuck with 1080p then battery life would have been very very good! Unfortunately they can't be seen to be going backwards in specs. At least Samsung have the VR headset as an excuse.

Anyway, still early days. I doubt the reviewers have had the HTC 10 long enough to make definitive conclusions about battery life. May get better.
