S9 issue with email deletion

Hi - I got my new s9 yesterday. Today I set up the email client. Can't use SSL, but that was the same on my old phone.
I also have a client with the same email on my computer. The emails loaded onto my phone, and I went and deleted them to keep things clean on the phone. Then I went to my computer email and all of the emails were gone because they were deleted from the server when I deleted them on the phone.
I assumed what was on my computer would have stayed, but it didn't. I had to go back to the phone and move the deleted mails back out to the inbox, so even mail I'd deleted on the computer ended up back in the inbox. I have looked all over the settings to find a way to "leave mail on server" but find no option. What to do?

what email app are you using?

Your email is probably Exchange or supports imap, these email types have those characteristics. Basically no way around it as this is a feature, works the same if you setup email client on a computer.
