I am currently with Verizon and am thinking of changing carriers to Sprint. I live in CT, USA and am concerned about the coverage of the S9+ as I travel the state for work. If you have some information that would be great. Currently I have the S8+ but Sprint would upgrade me and cut my bill in almost half. Thanks.
Sprint is currently running a promo to get a year of service "free" -- you pay $5/month for their Unlimited plan, that is cancelled out by a $5 credit with autopay, so you only pay a line fee of about $3/month. You can add up to 5 lines onto the account, all lines will be the $3 (likely under $4 with taxes). The only issue is that you'll need to port a number from another carrier (almost any carrier) into Sprint and bring your own device (which shouldn't be a problem coming from Verizon) for this plan. You cannot "lease" a phone from Sprint for the first 4 months you are on the plan.
You can find the plan on
Sprint's website, as well as a FAQ and all the details. Currently you should be able to sign up through the end of April (if you sign up through the website they will send you a SIM card, but you sign up over the phone, as well). If you do it, a warning not to let a store touch your account, it will get set to a normal Unlimited plan ($60/month, cheaper with more lines). The other thing that is not included is the free Hulu. Any lines you add, no matter when you add them, will remain "free" until May 31, 2019.
I had the free plan from June of last year and only recently got rid of it -- it was a great deal, though Sprint didn't work out for me, and I recently ported my number out (though it would have remained free for me until July 31 of this year). Actually, if they extend the offer again, I might sign up again in May (from what others only have stated, after 45 days you can again be eligible for the plan as a "new customer").
This plan seems like it would be a great way for you to test out Sprint service, to see if it will work for your family. If you don't want to transfer your line at this time, you can always get a cheap line through an MVNO that you can transfer -- apparently someone is selling T-Mobile SIMs that you can use that are pre-activated that you can use to transfer to another carrier, wanting less than $10.
