Sad battery life

Screenshot says it all. 12.5 hours since unplug, all on wifi, very little screen on and over 50% battery lost. Android OS accounted for 58% of that, screen for 13%. I got the GNex on day one, but this started about a week ago. Frustrating.

UPDATE (Jan 31 2012):
Looks like the unofficial build of Swype I d/l from Google+ was my issue. I uninstalled it three days ago, went back to stock keyboard (which I'm actually loving) and have had fantastic battery life again. I was also put off a bit by the amount of data sent back to Swype with their Swype Connect. when the official ICS beta comes out, I might just stay with stock.

I dont have a GN ( yet ) but let me tell you about my battery experience. When I first purchased my Fascinate I left everything on and the battery would last 3-4 days. When it updated to Froyo, it suddenly would only last 12-14 hours with the same settings. I researched online and found lots of people with this problem. I tried all kinds of battery saving programs, none helped, some made it worse.

So I started disabling everything ( except phone service ) and only enabling it when I use it. Well, I am at 41% right now after 4 days, 23 hours and 22 minutes since unplugged! My only explanation is that for some reason, on some phones, with some apps installed and some versions of Android, leaving any type of data connected will cause some apps or processes to run wild connecting to data, sync'ing, whatever, and suck your battery dry.

You have an app that keeps waking your phone up a LOT. That's why your battery life sucks.

I know. But figuring out which one is more difficult than thought. I'm turning off widgets and removing apps selectively, but ni luck so far. I thought it was lightflow, since it seemed to start shorty after using that. But disabling that made no difference.

4 days? ridiculous.. Lucky yours last more than 12 hours, mine would be dead by then.. lol then again I use mine probably more than you use yours.

Mine did that to me just the other day. I wiped the phone clean and put a 4.0.3 ROM on it and got 31 hours out of the next charge (extended battery). If you are not one to do that, you should either exchange it or wait for the update. I think 4.0.3 is going fix a lot of issues.

Get betterbatterystats app.. Free for xda members or a couple of bucks on the market. Will help you track down what's keeping your phone awake.

First of all 12 hours is good, I used to get 6 every day. Second, explain to me why your wireless needs to be on all the time. Look at mine. It's only on mostly when my screen is on. Third, go to your data usage and start restricting apps by how by often they connect to the server. CPUspy free it'll help you if your phone sleeps.

If you are near WiFi then keep it on all day but if you know you'll be away from it for like an hour or longer I'd turn it off because it uses less battery than the cell radios but obviously is draining when it is constantly scanning. Try opening up the camera app and kill it because the sensor may be open. But I would get a better battery state app to allow you to pinpoint it and/or root and flash a new ROM and/or kernel.

Twelve hours at fifty percent and you are complaining? I'm sorry but that sounds good to me. You are getting twenty four hours on a lte phone. Almost unheard of.

That's 12 hours of essentially not using it as I probably used it for no more than 15 minutes in that 12 hour period. I work from home, so I'm in wifi all day, that's why my wifi is on. Yesterday I did not use it for 12 hours and it drained by over 50%. A week ago this was not the case as I was getting up to 17 hours out of it with moderate or more use (yes, I have the extended battery pack).

I will try the aforementioned apps to see if I can track down what's keeping it awake. Thanks everybody for the suggestions.

Are you on 4G or 3G?

So I am using BetterBatteryStats to figure this out. I quickly saw that I have a frequent wlan_rx_wake triggering under Raw Kernel Lock. So I turned off wifi and it appears the frequent awake states went away.

Does anybody know if this is just a glitch in 4.0.2 and will be fixed with 4.0.3 as previously mentioned?

Thanks to all who helped. Maybe it's time to set up a Tasker task to turn on wifi when screen is on...

As a matter of fact, your battery life is not too bad (as others mentioned). Of course, it is not too good, either. The cause of it is, I believe, your WiFi. When your screen is off, your WiFi also should remain off. However, your phone keeps WiFi always on which eventually drains your battery.

My Gn usually last 35 to 40hrs in one charge (about 1hr screen-on time). GN could easily reach more than 48hrs if we just leave the phone alone. On one condition. Your WiFi or Phone stays asleep when it's supposed to be asleep, and your mobile signal is not bad around you.

Once again, your problem is WiFi. Try to figure out how to put WiFi asleep when your GN screen is off.

That would definitely help, like I said my Fascinate battery is toast if I leave WiFi on for a full day and night. I will wake up with a dead battery. If I turn it off I only lose 1-2% overnight.

Ive emailed several developers of those battery saver apps to be able to schedule WiFi to turn on once every couple hours for a few minutes so things can sync, but Ive never gotten a response. If you look at the descriptions for those apps, many of them say that scheduling of WiFi and 3G has not worked in their apps since Froyo, the OS wont allow it.

I set up a simple Tasker to turn wifi on when screen is on, and wifi off when screen is off. The Awake states went down drastically. Battery life has already improved in the last two hours. Granted it's not as good as could be since I'm on 3G when the screen if off (before I was having this issue, having it on wifi all the time at home was best for battery), but it's far better than before. This should work for now until an update will fix whatever the issue is (hopefully 4.0.3...)

under default settings my wifi is off when my phone is sleeping, no special app.
