I've been going back and forth on this recently, but I now know that when the fourth generation iPhone comes out I will be moving back to AT&T. I love my Nexus and everything it offers, but after living with it for a few months I've decided that what I use it for most (music, video, apps) the Nexus One just isn't quite there yet. I'll have to pay the $200 ETF with t-mobile, but selling the Nexus on here or on ebay should eliminate that cost and the cost of the new phone.

Now, don't take this as a knock against the Nexus. Its a great phone and a great device. For me though, since my very first smartphone was the iPhone 3G, the experience just is too different and I got used to using my phone for certain things that Android still lags behind with. I'm also a little bit of a freak about getting accessories and the like, which is a fair bit more difficult with anything that isn't the iPhone.

The only question now is what the new iPhone's final software build will be like, and the details about the hardware.

Definitely understandable... I'll be picking one up, but
that's because I'm a phone whore. My N1 will still
remain my main device. I really don't do media unless
it's podcasts or a playlist (of music) when I'm at the
gym, so this may be my reasons for not minding which
device has better media capabilities. What ever you
choose, hope it's the right and best decision.

Good luck!

You might wanna look into this before you move over to AT&T.

As of June 7, you're no longer gonna have unlimited data plans. Your only options will be a $15/month 200MB data plan or a $25/month 2GB data plan. That might be good or bad depending on how much data you use on with your phone but just giving you a head's up.

Same as Duvi. I'll probably get it, because I love iPhones. I just love my Nexus One more.

Really?

What do you expect to get from the iPhone 4 that you can't get from the N1?

I've read all the reviews and announcements and speculation. I'm not seeing anything it does better EXCEPT having a front facing camera.

But you mentioned media. I'm not seeing how the Flash lockout helps that. I'm not seeing anything the iP4 does in the media arena better than the N1.

So what did I miss that lured you back to the iP4?

(Not arguing, just askin).

I dont get what the iphone 4G will have the N1, doesnt, multi-task? Android will surpass the iphone OS it it hasnt already.

Oh I know about that. I keep careful tabs on my data consumption, and when I had the 3GS I never exceeded a gig of usage. That could change obviously, but I can't see myself using more than 2 gigs.

Well, for me its a lot of little things. I listen to music A LOT on my phone, so not having lockscreen controls has really started to bother me. Video-wise, I like the vertical nature of iTunes where I can buy videos and load them right up on the phone with little fuss. Right now I use DoubleTwist, but it isn't a great solution.

It isn't that for me. I don't care that Android will surpass the iPhone OS. I don't care that the iPhone is locked down compared to Android. For me, after experiencing Android for a few months, I think the iPhone OS is a better fit.

I'm the same way. In the last year I've had a Droid, Tour, 9700, Storm 2, Nexus One, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Surprisingly, despite the high number of phones, I really haven't had to spend a penny with selling them on ebay, etc.

Funny that you mention media as a reason to go back to iPhone, this is the reason I choose Android. iPhone does not play ogg files and half my library is ogg. Plus I don't like to be tied to iTunes.

On other hand, no doubt the UI of iphone is still "slickest" ;)

Have fun.

Itunes and the iPhone interface are the two things that drove me away.

Odd you still a think the iPhone interface is the slickest, it hasn't changed significantly since it was introduced in 2007. Its old, stodge, an reminds me a lot of windows 3.1 with icons locked in place all over the desktop. The notifications look and work like windows 3.1 pop-ups, no where near as functional as Android. No folders, no "All-Apps" display, just endless paging thru springboard screens looking for your misplaced Icon.

Frozen in time with less functionality than Windows 3.1.

I really don't understand why people still think its the best. Its far from the best.

You're right .. my statement was too strong, I did not mean in general and sure not functionality-wise. I have not seen an iPhone in months ... it used to be impressive in 2007 ;)

iPhone OS 4 has folders, and you've been able to move icons since OS2.

For me, iPhone is what works best. I don't find android intuitive and I don't like how it treats media. (is there a reason why half my albums don't have album artwork when I know its there?)

Doubletwist's media player has caught up A LOT, but its still not as good as the iphone's. Its very, very close, but not enough to keep me on the platform.

Albums image are embedded in file using standard tag. So even if you copy/buy one song, your album art is there. This is actually the best way to do it.

If you buy music from amazon it works fine. And you can embed them yourself. Having a separate .folder or whatever on the side is a bad habit, is not a standard and is not even same between mac and windows.

See, but they ARE embedded using ID3 tags, but they still won't show up. (they show up in double-twist, but won't transfer.)

I can understand what the OP mean when he say media wise. The android to me sound wise is not loud enough. I guess because i listen to hip hop and heavy bass music i want my ear to be bleeding lol, but i picked up a sandisk media player to compensate for android media(sound wise) shortcomings. Hopefully in gingerbread they finally add a equalizer and louder volume because where almost up to 3.0 i mean come on.

[edit] If you really don't have the money then by all means sell the nexus, but i feel as if you should keep it because i have a feeling gingerbread will be even bigger than froyo. It would suck if you reading the web stating how amazing it is and you have to buy another android phone.

Yup, definitely switching to the iPhone 4. Android's a great mobile platform, its just not for me though.
