With the G4 having such a new version of Lollipop I was wondering if my Gear Fit and Gear S would connect.....nope.
After a lot of reading it appears that the firmware for the wearable devices from Sammy is a bit slow getting out.
Gave up on the Gear S, not a bad thing because I had a friend wanting to buy it.
As far as the Fit, I really like the simplicity of it and the convenient notifications and was determined to make it work.
First problem, these Sammy wearables are not designed to work with non-Samsung devices. In the past an easy fix, just side load the Gear Manager APK and voila. Unfortunately Lollipop threw a wrench in the works (for Sammy and non-Sammy devices). The good news for Sammy owners is that updated software continues to roll out. But if you are a non-Sammy owner you cannot update unless you do one of the following:
- Find a current APK and use Odin to load....in my case the load failed several times, gave up.
- Kies?? Not so sure, some say it will work but I tried and it came back saying it did not support my device (Gear Fit).
- Find a friend with a Samsung phone, connect the Fit and download the Fit firmware (or go to Best Buy and ask the person in the Samsung department to update like I did).
Long story short, the Gear Manager software and the device must be compatible
Here is the latest Gear Manager link, this will work with Lollipop on non-Sammy devices. Again, be sure to load the latest firmware on the Samsung wearable.
