Samsung demands access to iPhone 5 and iPad 3

it's kinda a catch 22 when one company makes parts for another, yet wants to release something of there own using those same parts... or similar ones. What would apple do if their suppliers stopped supplying, and became direct competitors full on? that would be fun to watch.

I'd argue that you are seeing what they'd do right now before your eyes. They are delaying the product while trying to gain leverage to shake loose more capacity. What will be really fascinating is what happens if they don't get it...

Unlike rumors that come from Apple's leak sources, that was truly speculation (no tech site claimed knowledge of Apple's plans). This is significant because Apple could actually have increased sales of the VZW iPhone if they'd leaked such a plan. Since they didn't until much later (after the damage to sales was done, but in time to temper expectations for WWDC) I don't at all accept that Apple planned this.

Well you're going to have to, because that's your only option. Apple doesn't do anything accidentally. Steve Jobs' personality wouldn't allow for that. There are no indications whatsoever that Apple decided to delay the new iPhone based on parts shortages or anything of the like. Things will be a little more clear once WWDC happens, but until then the only option is that Apple decided to move the iPhone release to the end of the summer to allow for more time for the white iPhone and Verizon iPhone on the market.

They wouldn't need more capacity if the device comes out as rumored, and is a mere refresh of the iPhone 4. (unless, somehow, they've managed to hammer out deals with T-mobile and Sprint and are planning on doubling sales)
