Samsung Galaxy Light: Display the date!!

I must be missing this somewhere... but how can you display the date on this phone? I can't get it on my lock screen, or from the drag down notification (well i drag down then hit the time on the top left). I really didn't want to place another widget on my phone, seems to slow it down. Any suggestions?

I know you said not another widget, but Dashclock has one that can go on the lockscreen if you are on 4.2+

Not sure what your doing but mine has date by default on lock screen.

Sorry, I forgot to come back here and reply, after that last T-Mobile update (before this most recent one) it seems to have corrected this! My date is now displayed on multiple lock screens now as well as on the pull down menu. Thanks for all your input!
