Hi, All:
New guy. 71 and smart phone NOT smart. I finally had to break down and replace my Samsung Galaxy Sol2 because I got new hearing aids. They use the only bluetooth channel on that, and I couldn't connect to anything else. After several posts here and hours of wasted time on the internet, I finally went to Best Buy. Guy there strongly recommended the Samsung Galaxy S24, so I bought one. He ported all my stuff, and, in general it worked pretty well. I was able to get the apps that didn't make it. I'm currently working on a problem that hours of internet research can't seem to fix, so I'm bothering you folks.

New phone doesn't have a "Contacts" icon on the desktop. All I get when I google this is how to put a single person's contact on the desktop, which I definitely don't want to do. Apparently, without that icon on the desktop, I can't edit my contacts, so I need to get this fixed.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Mike

Are you looking to add a simple shortcut to open the Contacts app? Or are you talking about a Contacts widget?

To add a shortcut, bring up your App Drawer, long-press the Contacts app, and drag it to the homescreen. If you don't know how to bring up the App Drawer, then first tell us if you're using gesture navigation, or if you still have the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen.

Boy, I hate this. So sorry. What is an "app drawer"? When I google "how to edit contacts on S24" it tells me to start by tapping the "contacts" button on the desktop. I need whatever that button is. Sorry again for bein so ignorant. I forgot to address 2 other questions. 1: I don't know what "gesture navigation" is. 2: I don't think I have "navigation buttons" on the bottom of my screen. There are 3 things. left, something that looks like "III" middle, a rounded square, and right a "left arrow" button.

The App Drawer shows every app that's installed on your phone. Unlike iPhones, you can choose not to show every single app on your homescreens on Android phones, which helps to decrease clutter. See this to learn more about how to bring up your App Drawer: https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/...-on-my-home-screen-how-do-i-find-all-my-apps/

You can always open an app by tapping on its icon in the App Drawer. But you can also customize your homescreens by dragging and dropping app shortcuts of your choice there -- to do this, open the App Drawer, long-press the app you want to create a shortcut for, and when you see options show up, tap Add to Home. Alternatively, you can drag the icon to the top of the screen until you see your homescreen appear, then place it wherever you prefer on the homescreen, then release your finger.

There are two ways to navigate around the phone's interface -- buttons at the bottom of the screen or swiping gestures. You have the button option selected (which is probably best for beginners). The rounded square is the Home button, the left arrow is Back, and the III is for Recent Apps.

Yep! That works! Thank you for your help and patience! I sometimes help guys on the antique radio forum. It can be really tough when they, like me here, know almost nothing. I appreciate your kindness.
Great! We've always tried to be very open to novices here, because everyone was a novice at some point, right? 😁

That's cool that you help with antique radios. If you have any, show us some pics of any you've worked on yourself! I always get a kick out of seeing authentic ones at the local antique or thrift store ...
