Samsung Galaxy S3 message length

Hi all, my Samsung Galaxy S3 used to let me text SMS messages up to about 360+ characters in length, the other week i needed to reboot the phone and now i find that it maxes out at 320 and then switches to MMS mode but cant send anything over the 1kb and reverts to multi media messaging but then it cannot send it, it just hangs there for ever.

Has anyone else come across this and know how i might fix this please.

The 320, is that total messages or number of characters in one message? I no longer am running a stock ROM, but after one of the updates (can't remember which) I noticed the drop in characters. It didn't matter much to me, as I am concise with typing. However, the character limit is set by the ROM, and aside from changing ROMs, which still may not help anything, there is nothing to be done.
As far as the MMS, what have you done to try to fix it? Reboots, clearing cache from recovery?
