Samsung Galaxy S3 not connecting with PC (UK)

Galaxy S3, 15 month old, normally shows "connected as media device" when plugged in via USB to laptop (Windows 7) and shows as an external drive.

Lasy few days - nothing. Doesn't even show as connected as a camera. Doesn't connect via Kies.

About to try downloading new driver, otherwise . . . . . .. what?

I highly doubt this will help, but you can try to clear cache in recovery mode.

Is the phone charging normally?
Have you tried a different cable?
Does anything show up on the phone when you plug it in?

Mine does that occasionally. I just pull the battery, when it reboots it's fine.
