Hello androidcentral! I'm currently in the process of rooting/installing a custom rom on a friend's Sprint GS3. (He had tried, but couldn't figure out where to start and just wanted me to do it for him). I've read various how-to's and I think I know how to get it done: I rooted it and installed a custom recovery- clockworkmod, version 5.5.0.4. I made a nandroid backup using rom manager and copied it to my computer. I read up on installing roms; I am installing cyanogenmod 10.1.3. I downloaded the stable version of cyanogenmod 10.1.3 for Sprint; cm-10.1.3-d2spr.zip and moved it to the internal storage. I also downloaded the appropriate gapps package for 10.1.3 cyanogenmod: gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip and moved it to internal storage. This is as far as I have gotten- the rest is only theoretical. I believe to install the rom I would reboot into clockworkmod, wipe the cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe data/factory reset. Then, choose "install zip from sdcard" and choose the rom file. Then install the gapps package. After that reboot. For users daring to read my huge wall of text, did I forget anything, and am I on the right track? Thanks for any replies.
