Hey, two days ago my s3 turned off by it self and it would not turn back on. Model # SGH-1747 its on the latest firmware. When I put the battery in it will turn on by it self show the SAMSUNG screen then the following Galaxy s3 screen then it will turn off. Like it can't get pass the 2nd screen. It's not a battery issue I tried 3 different batteries. I can't get into download mode or recovery mode. I've had it on the charger for like 4 hours but it won't charge for more than 5 seconds, the orange light would come on the shut right off. I think i need to restore it but idk if it's possible if i cant turn on the phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this has happened to you please let me know what you did to fix it. I don't have warranty anymore so I can't send it in

This sounds very much like the dang "Power button is stuck" issue, which appears to be getting more frequent. The phone should not be turning itself on just because you insert a battery.

You can try (gently) prying the Power button off (not the actual Power switch on the mainboard, but the little plastic piece that presses down on it, which is what you interact with) and see if that resolves the issue.

You can also spray compressed air around the switch (with the battery out of course) once the button is off, and try exercising the switch to release it from being stuck.

I did that and still nothing. is there anyway i can like root it without it being on or something. my friend told me that but I think its BS. Also as for any more information. Before the phone stopped working it would shut off by it self randomly like 4 times a month and sometimes more but I would just turn it back on

Perhaps your friend knows something I don't - I'd be happy to learn a way to root without it being on. As far as I'm aware it's not possible. Maybe he means a way to debrick it? I don't know.

The only thing I can suggest is JTAG repair http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/

I dont think the phone is bricked? I never rooted it before... Im going to try the air compressor like the guy up there said and see if that works
Edit: I just read the reviews and did some research and it seems like a good shot. Thank you very much I'll send it in a couple days if I cant find anything that works

hey i think i do have the power button stuck issue, because I got it to turn on and while it was on it asked to turn off like the 3 little things that pop up when you hold the power button and I wasnt holding. I think it may be due to the fact when I got the screen cracked and got it replaced through ebay, I air compressed the power button but It doesnt seem to fully fix it, do yo have any other recommendations
