Good day

I experienced something quite unfamiliar today. I recorded a video of about 2 minutes long. After I stopped the video the phone just froze and when it got back on, I wanted to play the video and it said to me "Can't play this video", and has no picture in the gallery, just a black background with a small grey square with a film sign inside and a small black 'crack' on the right top corner. When clicking on "details", it tells me that the video is 294.2MB, so the phone has something? The video isn't gone? It seemed the memory of the phone got full while filming as I don't have a SD Card.

I tried to move the video to a PC and also failed to play. I downloaded VLC and a video converter app to try anything, but also failed.

I really need the video!!! What can I do!!?

Regards

Welcome to Android Central! If the video didn't save properly, it may not be accessible. Did you already try renaming it with an ".mp4" suffix?

Hi B Diddy

How do I do that?

If the video wasn't properly saved, is there by no means a way to access it, it is still 294Mb large?

Use a file manager app to rename the file and add on ".mp4" to the filename. You could also do this using your computer's file manager.

You could also try using a program like PhotoRec or DiskDigger.

B. Diddy, I downloaded a file manager app and added '.mp4' at the end and it shows that its on mp4 format but is still keeps saying the same thing.
Didn't try the computer though, but I suppose it will probably show the same?

Only what I can think happened is: the phone recorded the full video(290mb) but couldn't save the last part, so now it won't let me acct the whole video...
Is this possible?

I think that's exactly what happened. See if those file recovery programs are helpful.

No, they're PC programs. There are links in my previous post.

Thanks B. Diddy, it helped me. I can now view the video. BUT there's still a snag. Believe me or not, but the most important part of the video is broken!! The video's sound keeps playing like it should but the video self skips a 5-6 second bit out, like it was cut. And afterwards, to let the sound catch up with the video, the video freezes, and then stop.
Now, my new question is, what happened this time? Is there any magical Apps that can fix THIS one?

Regards

I"m glad you were able to partially recover it, but I'm afraid I don't have a suggestion for that problem. My guess is that the video itself is corrupted by the fact that it saved incorrectly. Good luck!
