Samsung Galaxy S5. Can I interrupt Wipe Cache Partition that has been running nearly 3 hours?

Have been having battery issues with my phone and read where wiping cache partition may help. I have previously done this about 2-3 months ago without problem.
Took about 15 minutes. I started the process today about 2.5 hours ago and it is still 'wiping cache'. My battery was about around 9% when I started. Has been connected to wall charger from before I started it. Is there any way that I can stop the process without damage?
Really need to use the phone atm . Have googled as much as I can in the last hour and cannot find an answer. Saw where one guy took out his battery to stop and now phone won't work. Really appreciative of any advice.

Long-press the power button until it restarts. But it sounds as if there's some problem - with the phone or with how you're interpreting things. A cache wipe should take only a few minutes at most.
