Samsung Galaxy S6 black screen

My wife just purchased a Hyundai i30 in Australia with Android Auto.

I have successfully connected my Moto G (Marshmallow) to the Android auto but cannot get her Samsung Galaxy S6 with Lollipop to work.

I believe it should work with Lollipop and in Australia with her telecom provider she cannot get Marshmallow yet.

After installing the latest Android Auto on her phone the phone connects and behaves as if it 'thinks' it is connected to an android auto device.

The car screen gives the expected messages that her phone has connected via Bluetooth and that it has connected via Android auto. But then we get nothing but a black screen in the car.

If I wake up the phone screen I see the icon for Samsung's "Car Mode" but I can't find car mode anywhere on the phone (to try to turn it off). I even installed car mode from the Samsung App store in the hope that would allow me to turn it off.

I have tried looking for "Car Mode" in her messaging app but it is not there, then I tried replacing her messaging app with another one. Still not there.

I might be going in completely the wrong direction thinking that this Samsung "Care mode" is the problem. But during the AA config it did say something about another app and to set AA as the default, which I did.

I have also tried several different USB cables and of course they work with my Moto G anyway. I have also cleared the cache at various times and re booted the phone many times.

Any ideas?

I just discovered that voice recognition works. Despite the black screen I can push the car voice button and make phone calls, choose music etc.
