The new Samsung Galaxy S6 phone is equipped with 16 MP camera and OIS support. What is OIS support in camera ?

Re: What is OIS support in camera?

Believe it stands for Optical Image Stabilization, this helps to reduce blurry photos because of hand movements etc.

Re: What is OIS support in camera?

Pretty much keeps the camera more stable when your video recording or taking a pic, because your hand tends not to stay comepletely still when taking a video or pic causing shaky video or blurry images

This is a sample of what OIS can do

OIS stands for optical image stabilizer. AlphaVictor87 is correct in that it helps to reduce blur when taking photos, and one of its best benefit comes when taking videos. I believe there are messages in this forum that already link to videos showing the differences of a camera is OIS and one without.

Here is one video that shows a benefit: Samsung Galaxy S6 edge vs iPhone 6 Plus: Optical image stabilization comparison (video)

Re: What is OIS support in camera?

The camera lens is mounted on tiny springs that act like a steadicam to counteract shaking when you shoot. This has tremendous benefit for removing the shakes from videos, especially 4K videos since EIS, which is software based image stabilization, cannot be use for 4K video. 1080p video can take the advantage of OIS and EIS to give you super smooth video.

It's also very handy for low light shooting since the tiny shakes and tremors in your hand cause blurring if the shutter is open to long. With OIS, the shutter can stay open longer to let in more light which will reduce graininess and increase detail. When you couple OIS with the larger f/1.9 aperture, the S6 should be one of if not the best low light phone cameras.
