Samsung galaxy S7 with 24gb internal on phone only has 8gb free? where is it all being used

[Android Central Question]

hi, ive a gaslaxy S7, i have an sd card with all my pictures , videos, etc.. mosly everything, but the explorer shows my 'phone' with about 8gb free of 23.9gb total on phone... where is it all being used, as i only have a few small whatsapp videos on the phone storage and the aviary photo editor photos, a small amount... but not 16gb worth.. ive uninstalled apps i dont use... hers are the images of the space issues.

i used the program 'treefilesize' and i dont even see the space being used anywhere on the 'phone' folder...

Have you checked the cache and data being used on each app installed on your phone?

Install Terminal Emulator for Android. Issue the

df

command (and tap the enter key). (It displays better in landscape mode.) The last line is normally the user space - everything else is being used by the phone. So you don't have 23.9GB available to install apps, store videos, etc., you have a lot less. (That's just the way things are - you can't have the system stuff on the phone without it taking space.)
