AC Question

I can't get the samsung tablet t230 to mirror w amazon tv stick. Says it should above os 4.2 (4.4.2) but don't even seem to be commands for mirroring - can't find device. Help appreciated.

tab 4 (SM T230NU) can't mirror with Amazon firetv stick -

I bought the amazon firetv stick specifically to mirror with my samsung galaxy tab 4 tablet (SM 5230NU) but I don't even see commands on it for mirroring, and though the fire stick works with my tv and remote, and I can even use the tablet as a remote, I don't see a way to get it to mirror - the device (tv or firetv) doesn't show up, there's no mirroring option under where some forums say it is - before I return the firetv stick I was hoping somebody knew if the tablet can mirror and how - thanks.

If it is capable of mirroring, try settings, from the Wireless and networks section, tap "More Networks".
From the Media share section, tap Screen mirroring.
When it is connected the device"s screen is displayed on the TV.
Obviously the TV and Fire stick need to be on to receive the device

Thanks Diddy - will chromecast let me mirror - and where on my tablet is the mirror command? Thanks

Chromecast might let you mirror--it depends on the device, and I don't think there's a comprehensive list, since more devices tend to be added to the list as time goes on. If it's possible on your device, it would be through the Google Cast app. There's a Cast Screen command in the app's menu. From what I saw in a couple of forums, I think the Tab 4 is in fact capable of screencasting.

Otherwise, another option is Samsung's own AllShare Cast hub: samsung.com/ca/support/skp/faq/1050341

well I'll see if it mirrors tomorrow - meanwhile if it does interface correctly, it shouldn't be a problem using the chromecast with my tablet in other settings, like a hotel, right? - as long as I have wifi I just need to have both devices assigned to the same network and I should be fine anywhere, right? (I assume I do need internet to use the chromecast) - thank you -

thanks but according to that thread I have to take my laptop ("simply create a Wi-Fi hotspot from your laptop and connect the Chromecast through your laptop instead. The simplest way to do this is using an application called Connectify Hotspot that lets you create a Wi-Fi hotspot from your laptop even if you are using your Wi-Fi to connect to the hotel’s internet connection. . ." - but the reason I'm going through this is because sometimes I don't want to take the laptop, just my tablet - can my tablet, which is the device I'll use to control the chromecast, capable of creating the wifi hotspot as described above, or do I have to have the 3rd device, the laptop, to make this work - because that just defeats the purpose. Honestly, I never imagined it would be this complicated.

I guess in addition I should ask, is there any way to hook my tablet up to a tv and see and hear it there (what would be "mirroring" in chromecast) the way I can with my laptop, with a wire of some kind? I guess not, that's why you need the chromecast - more complicated than I thought it be!

The problem with the Tab 4 7.0 is that it does not support MHL, the cable adapter that's used to connect to HDMI. So you're stuck with wireless solutions.

A pocket travel router is another possibility, but it still requires you to use additional equipment besides just your tablet. How to use Chromecast without Wi-Fi: Making the most of Google’s streamer when travelling | Alphr

I was going to suggest looking into the Samsung AllShare Cast wireless hub as I mentioned above, but now that I think about it, this may not work either. I think the tablet still has to support Miracast in order to connect to the hub, and as already noted, your device does not support Miracast. The link for the hub I posted previously does mention it's for the Tab 4, but I believe it's for the Tab 4 10.1 (which does support Miracast).

but what about connecting to the "hotspot" with just the tablet - do I have to have the tablet and the laptop in a hotel room (""simply create a Wi-Fi hotspot from your laptop and connect the Chromecast through your laptop instead."), or can I create this hotspot on the tablet and connect the chromecast that way - or do I have to have the laptop as well? Thanks again -

I don't know for sure, but I suspect you can't. If the wi-fi radio is being used as a hotspot, then I don't think it can be used as a wi-fi receiver as well.

I don't think you'll have any luck with Chromecast, since Amazon doesn't support it on any of their devices. It's entirely a business decision, some fight between Google and Amazon. I wish this worked, since our new Vizio TV supports Chromecast and we can cast most other streaming apps to it (e.g. Hulu, Netflix), but not Amazon Instant Video.
