I recently got an Samsung Gear S4 watch which I use for running paired with some apple airpods.
The samsung health app that comes on the watch tracks your gps and kilometers run, this app has a guide assistant that pauses the music every km to tell you your pace, time, heart rate etc. When this happens it stops the music and doesn't resume after it has finished going through said detail.
Very frustrating trying to fumble with the watch to continue spotify while running.
This has only started occurring the last few times running. Before that it worked fine.

I moved this from the Android Apps forum to the Galaxy Watch forum for more specific traffic. (I assume you have the Galaxy Watch, since it's technically the Gear S4.)

So annoying, only started happening after the last update I think !

You have to stop your focus and try and get the song back on, if you're running many KMs it gets super annoying.

As Patrick has posted, this is a bug which the latest software update has brought in. You have a couple of options:

1. Turn the guide off. You won't get verbal feedback, but your music won't stop. To do this, when you select your exercise eg running, BEFORE you press 'start running', scroll down to 'Guide frequency' and change this to NONE.

2. Use a far superior app for tracking your fitness such as Gear Tracker. It's in the Galaxy Store. Link below.

You will get a vibration or a bleep (user defined) and a lap screen with pace and distance at the interval you select and your music won't stop. The developer may introduce voice feedback (optional) in the future. I find it's better without as it's not as distracting. I can see in a split second what the voice feedback would take 20 seconds to tell me.

Heh, yeah I only noticed it two days ago because it was the first day the ice melted and that I actually run outside instead of on a treadmill. Very annoying, but I still appreciate that Spotify fixed the spontaneous logout issue, and will let me pair my watch app to my phone app so that I don't have to enter the super long alphanumeric username that Spotify randomly assigned me (if I ever get randomly logged out...which I guess I won't). I feel like they fixed some major issues, but introduced one new annoying but minor one.

I'll take it, but why, Spotify? Why can't you write good software!?

Download Samsung Sound Assistant, turn on Dual Audio and add Spotify to it. Basically the apps activated under dual Audio will ignore Audio Focus and continue playing.

Nice one. That's a great tip. But is that for the phone, rather than for the watch?

Starting to consider whether I should turn off the voice notifications. Up here in Minnesota it's cold even in March, and pulling back my sleeve when I'm jogging at 6 AM and below freezing to turn the music back on is...mildly discomforting to say the least.

Was this a problem before the update? I don't remember it being an issue. I'll maintain that the updated Spotify is way better than what we previously had, if only because it doesn't log me out every time I delete my offline music. Still not sure why Spotify's developers can't get their act together. Tizen is just a fork of Android. Shouldn't this be a breeze for anyone familiar with writing software in a Linux environment?

I would just turn the voice guides off and periodically check your progress. Or, as I keep going on about, install Gear Tracker and problem solved - you will get lap info at your chosen intervals albeit a vibration or a bleep, rather than a robotic voice.

Spotify programmers are either completely inept, or they are restricted from levels of the OS which Samsung won't allow them access to. My guess is the latter.

Heh, yeah it got too annoying after this morning and I just turned it off. I guess I jog exactly the same route every day, so the guide probably isn't needed. Wish Spotify and/or Samsung would get their act together though.
