Samsung in talks with LG Chem for new smartphone batteries

Well, it's a good start, but now they have to start designing phones that don't cram hot batteries into small spaces.

How do we know the batteries are even a problem, since Samsung can't duplicate this issue in their own testing?

We don't. Which is why everyone feels so free to create their own conclusion based on rumors and blog posts.

I hope Samsung figures it out, otherwise lots of people will never trust their devices again. Not at $800 a pop.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy too much into that. The LG batt (even tho he SAID they were both fully charged) may have been dead, or at the very least, had degraded enough that full isn't really full any more. Also, how many mah did each batt have?

I personally, think this would be a poor biz decision on samsungs part.

Imo... the best practice would be to find the problem, resolve it, and win back lost customers with the "wow" samsung is known for....

Handing your battery supply to a competitor just smells of defeat, and weakness.

But what do I know? I'm not a big shot samsung ceo....

I'd say they do both.

I think it's a good move, especially given the fact that they aren't winning anybody back without serious changes to their QC and public image.

I mean hell, how much of the competition turns to Samsung for parts?

It's just one component of a phone, not that bad right
