Samsung J3 Slow After Update to 7.1.1 Nougat

I picked up a J3 a little over a year ago as an inexpensive replacement for my old phone when I broke the screen. It's been a decent phone for me, since I don't need a lot of power, but a while back, Samsung sent out the Nougat update.

Since the update, it has slowed to a crawl. It now takes 2-3 seconds between tapping an app or sometimes even swiping right or left to switch home screens.

I have not added any new apps and even deleted some that I no longer use, or have moved to my tablet.

Restarting the phone helps for a while, but it will eventually slow down again. This leads me to believe an app with a memory leak (or android equivalent).

Is there an app or some other way to tell what is running in the background and taking up resources?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated of course.

I followed the instructions and it completed, but generated an error

"failed to find /misc partition"

After re-booting, it seems to be running fine, but it usually does after a reboot, at least for a while. I'll give it some time to settle in and report back.

That's odd -- I'm not sure if that's significant or not. Keep us updated!

Well, it was looking good for the first day, but on the second evening (last night) I can see the slowdown again. I haven't rebooted yet. I want to see if it gets as bad as before, but so far it hasn't.

I may decide to switch to my backup (an iPhone 6) until I can afford a nicer android...

There are few more things you could try, if you want to spend the time:

1. Uninstall apps one by one to see if performance improves after one particular app is removed.
2. Do a factory reset (after backing everything up), then reinstall apps one by one.
