samsung kies wont show thumbnail pictures only showing thumbnail icons

hello to everyone and thanks in advance for the help........
when i open samsung kies to the picture gallery, the gallery that shows pics on my phone, only thumbnail preview icons show up, not the actual picture that's on my phone. is this normal?
