Samsung Moment Problem after 2.1 Install

Quick question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I installed 2.1 with no problem and immediately enjoyed the improvements in the OS.

Went to Android Market to reload my apps. Had good luck at first with a few of them, then started getting "Download Unsuccessful" messages. Tried restarting phone, tried WIFI, tried no WIFI, and kept getting the same failure.

Back when I was running 1.5, the only thing I found that worked in this case was wiping the phone data and starting over by doing a factory data reset. The problem is, when I try to do that, I get this message: "No reset was performed because the System Clear service is not available."

I'm not sure what to do. I love the update but can't download any apps.

Help!

Call Sprint PCS

I've only had my android moment for a few days, but I did the update without problems. I'd call Sprint and talk to them, or I'd redo the update. I had a few little issues when I did the update, but I seem to have quickly resolved them and got up and running full speed.

I would do a system backup from recovery. Then reflash the phone again.

NOTE: If you have any questions regarding ANYTHING, Please ask BEFORE you reflash. After you reflash, if you dont have a correct backup of important $h!t youre skrewed. For system backup. With phone off...Hold vol down button, send button, and end button, in that order. Hold those buttons down until you get your bootscreen. Release the buttons. Select system, backup, hit "home" button to confirm. After backup is complete, Reflash phone with DE03. After the phone reboots wait 5-10 minutes then reboot it again. This will give the /system/ files time to catch up. Hope this helps.

Thanks, LSanna1488. This problem got worse after I posted it. I called online support and he tried to help me wipe my phone. By the time we were done I couldn't make phone calls anymore!

Went to the Sprint store and they couldn't fix it so they gave me a new Moment with 1.5. Went back and installed 2.1 easy as pie. Synced my Google Account and guess what...

I still can't download anything from Android Market! I can't believe it.

I'm going to try your suggestion next. What do I have to lose?

What does it tell you when you try to download?

The only issue I have is the stock messaging app will send duplicate sms' to people when I press enter, but if I send via the touch screen it works perfectly. Odd, but not a big deal lol.

To answer your question, I get the same "Download Unsuccessful" message I got with my other phone. I can't believe I'm writing this, but my phone was more useful to me when it was on 1.5.

The new OS is great, but without being able to download apps, I'm left with a basic phone. In fact, because I can't download the Google Voice app, and I depend heavily on Google Voice, I'm actually worse off then when I had the Blackberry.

The sad thing is, that with 1.5 it was easily the best phone I'd ever had.

Is this a work around or a permanent solution? Here is my problem... I don't want to switch gmail accounts. My Google Voice is tied to my main Gmail account that I've had for years and I don't want to change it.

Thing is, I don't know how to log out of my Google account on this phone. As I mentioned before, it won't let me do a factory wipe under the "privacy" section of "settings", which is the only way I know of to clear my Google account on the phone. I may be missing something here, and I don't mean to be negative.

Am I missing something here? I do appreciate your help, you seem to be the only one willing to try.

This "download unsucessful" bug is known about -- it goes away after time. Apparently the system takes a couple reboots (or hours) to sync your account with the right market. Just be patient and it should start working. If it's still not fixed after a day or 3-4 reboots, then post back and I'll walk you through some more steps.

Good luck!

Yeah, LSanna1488, I tried creating a second account, but it doesn't help. I can't do a master reset, which I think is what you were recommending I do, THEN create the new account.

But even if it did work, because of Google Voice and my own stubbornness of not wanting to give up my Gmail account of all these years, it's not the solution for me.

Thanks, Adam Sawyer. I hope you are right. I'm going to give it some time, but this problem started about 3pm today and shows no signs of going away. I'll try to be patient.

Still wondering why the phone won't let me do a Factory Reset. Makes me worried if I ever wanted to take it to the shop and didn't want them snooping in my email... I couldn't wipe the phone.

hmm, I'm having the same problem with a family member's phone, while mine is working fine, apparently many people are having this problem, and I've seen no suggestions that have worked. The downloads work for a sort time after the upgrade, then not at all for any download. I've reflashed 2.1, fixed the problem only temporarily, multiple reboots and multiple days later, and still not working. What's on the phone works fine, email works, the market can be browsed with no problem. The only other thing we've noticed is shorter battery life.

ok, in attempting to do the first step of this, I get a screen that says:
Android system recovery <2e>

Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -

reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
-----------------------------------

# manual mode #

nowhere there is a system option, to have a backup option under it.

I wiped my phone last night.. I also ha Advanced Task Killer, Google Map Update, and Pandora on mine with the same issue. Going to see if it continues today, if no lockup then I'll start installing one at a time.

There are two apps in common so far that have been posted on here that I have installed....

Advanced Task Killer
Google maps update

Is it possible that one of these is the issue? maybe the Advanced Task Killer is killing some process that is needed for internet usage and streaming....that seems to be where I notice the internet drops and problems the most...

Hmmmm.....

You will need a custom recovery for this option. Sorry I posted it in another thread but I guess not this one. Try SDX-Developers, they have custom kernels with root and custom recoveries as well.
