Android Central Question

I have a Samsung Note 10.1 tablet (2014 edition) and I tried rooting it years ago. The root failed and now time has passed and I need to update the software because it has charging issues, but it says it CAN'T because the ''device has been modified.''

When I try a root-remover app, or a root-tester app, I am told I don't have root.

So I don't have root extras, but I'm not allowed to upgrade.

Sigh.

Do I have to do a factory reset? Can I EVEN do a factory reset? From what I read that retains the root, and since I'm... I dunno, HALF-rooted or something, I'm worried all my stuff would be gone and I'd still have this problem.

Ideas?

Honestly I don't know that much about root but I do know that if you attempted it you probably unlocked the bootloader to get to whatever point you are at. At least more than likely. Anyway it is possible to unsuccessfully unlock the bootloader and still not have achieved root and having an unlocked bootloader may be what is stopping you. Try finding directions for locking the bootloader and give that a shot.

You may also be able to find the .ruu file from a PC or laptop.
