Samsung Pay and Screen Lock

I finally got Samsung Pay to install on my BT S2 (T-Mobile) and was disappointed to see it requires setting up a screen lock on the watch. I could see needing to enter a PIN for using Samsung Pay app itself, but the screen lock requires a PIN for accessing any app or widget--that's ridiculous. [SEE BELOW]

(Other oddity was that it didn't copy over any cards I already have set up on Samsung Pay on my phone--it wanted me to reenter them just for the gear application.)

Is there a way around the screen lock?
Thx in advance, J

P.s., to get Samsung Pay to load, I had to erase all my music and voice files (I assume to clear up memory)

P.p.s, I was mistaken--PIN to unlock is only needed first time you put watch on (e.g., on a given day), then it's not needed again until watch comes off wrist. So, not so bad and I'm off to my local Whole Foods to give it a try....

I did not have to set up my cards again, everything carried over fine. Glad you saw the difference when the PIN is required, I would not use Pay without the watch being locked.

I don't have a Samsung phone, so don't use Pay, but as far as the watch needing a PIN, that's sort of silly, as our watches are probably equally or less so to fall into someone else's hands (thief) as are our credit/debit cards.

My S2 screen goes blank if I remain still for an extended period (lying on couch watching a movie, for example), and I wish it didn't do this. Does Pay require you to reenter PIN in this situation, as I think the S2 thinks you've removed it from your wrist?

That's a good question--I believe answer is no as I'm pretty sure I had the blank screen yesterday (and my screen lock is engaged). I assume the screen lock is just some glitch and not necessarily watch thinking it's off your wrist.
To give Samsung benefit of the doubt (they could use some cheering up these days), it's not unreasonable that someone could steal the watch from a locker or hotel room and then go on a shopping spree. I.e., they needed to do something to give appearance of security...
