I am obsessed with Samsung Pay. I wanted to find a dedicated forum for Samsung Pay to share my opinion on how to maximize the rewards from this amazing payment system.
I have been using it roughly for 4 months and I am at about 6,500 points which roughly equals $25-$30 based on $10 Gift card costing you 2,400 points.
I also use Android Pay when there is a promotion available, but it is not so easy to find NFC terminals. That is where Samsung Pay outshines with its MST technology.
My latest find is that it works at a Costco gas pump. The pump does not have NFC terminal, just the standard dip in card reader. I am not sure if all the pumps in different Costcos are the same as the ones at my Costco, but I have tried it twice and it worked.
So, you slide in your membership card and it asks for a payment. After that you should have your Samsung Pay phone ready to transmit MST after scanning your finger. Dip your ID or library card and remove it from the Pump while holding the back of the phone facing the same way the magnetic stripe on your card will face the reader. That's it, you just paid at the pump with Samsung Pay.
I have tried this method at other gas stations as well, but it did not work. I think it will work only at pumps where the card reader sticks out a little bit. Most of the readers on the pumps in other gas stations are flat.
I know, some of you will say what is the point of using an ID or something else to dip when you can use your actual credit card. Well... the point is rewards! This way you are getting rewards from Samsung and you are getting your cashback from your Credit/Debit card company as well.
Also, make sure you get your extra 500 points when you add a new card from the Samsung Internet browser. I am sharing this "trick" where you don't have to make an actual purchase to make it work.
Open the Samsung Internet Browser on your phone. Go to your Amazon. Find the section where you manage your payments, go to "add a payment". Once you do that you will see a new floating icon where it will ask you if you want to save your credit/debit card to the browser. After you fill that in, there will be an option to add that card to Samsung Pay. Do that and you will get the 500 points. Please note that it has to be a card that is hasn't been added to Samsung Pay and this promotion unfortunately ends tomorrow night.
Anyways, just my 2 cents.
