samsung s3 keeps getting hot and turning itself off

my phone has been having a few problems over the last few months but it has go to the point where I can hardly use it.

it started of that when I was on snapchat my phone would get hot and turn itself off, so I stopped using the app but then it continued to happen regularly.

I deleted the app and it still continued .
it getting more regular now when it turns itself on and off

Sorry, I don't quite understand--are you saying you do have a replacement battery, but both the old and new batteries are swollen in the middle? Swollen batteries are failing (and potentially dangerous), so discard them properly and get a new battery.

i have a new battery that i have been using but the problem still happens with that battery

How's your cell signal? If it's poor, that can cause the phone to heat up as it struggles to maintain the signal.

If the signal is fine, then try Unmounting your SD card (in Settings>Storage), in case there's some corrupt file there. Corrupt media files can cause the phone's Media Server to get stuck scanning that file. This causes increased CPU usage and heat production.
