my Galaxy S4 has no softaware update option. how do i update

Welcome to Android Central! Is it rooted? Did you get it brand new or used from someone else? If it's been rooted and running a custom ROM, that would eliminate the System Update option.

Another possibility is that it's a clone. Run CPU-Z, and tell us which processor it has. If it's MediaTek, it's a clone, because S4's either have a Snapdragon or Exynos processor.

its a Pre used phone and its been rooted .. how do i run a custom ROM and how do i run the CPU-Z

If it's been rooted, the previous owner probably installed a custom ROM, which doesn't allow you to check for system updates from the carrier. You'd have to re-flash the stock ROM, which you can do using Odin: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...w-flash-stock-rom-via-odin-new-interface.html

CPU-Z is an app--just install it from Google Play Store and run it.
