Samsung S4 will no longer connect to any computer, why?

Samsung S4 will no longer connect to any computer

Phone used to connect fine. Suddenly wouldn't connect after dropping connection while using pda net. USB debugging enabled. Tried different cables, different ports, and different computers. None work. Initially, i could see an error in device manager. i believe it was 24. but i can no longer see it and can not remember exactly. I also factory reset the phone. Phone will charge but is not recognized in device manager on multiple computers with both windows 7 and 10. I tried getting the drivers from samsung. Downloaded some drivers from samsung website but they dont have the exact model (sch-i545zwv). i tried the zwd and zwb, no dice. Have kies 3 installed and used it to reinstall drivers, no dice.

I have read that USB tethering doesn't work on Win 10. Others have problems with their devices not being recognised by Windows after upgrading to 10. I don't have that issue. My phone can be seen and Smart Switch works fine. I haven't been able to pinpoint why some have problems and others don't but one common thing is lack of tethering. I guess we need new drivers from Samsung.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the USB port that needs to be replaced.
