Samsung S5 GPS not speaking when Bluetooth is on - HELP

I've noticed in some cars, when my Bluetooth is enabled, the turn-by-turn spoken directions from Google Maps do not come through my phone's speaker. In my car this works, but I'm renting a car now and it doesn't work and it's the same car but different years. I thought I saw somewhere that there was a way to have Google Maps override the bluetooth but I'm not sure if that's possible or how to do it.
