Samsung S7 with intermittent missing data signal

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 which is on the o2 network in the UK.

It has an intermittent and chronic issue where there is no data signal or coverage, yet I have 4 or 5 bars of signal. I know that the area I am in has a 4G signal with that carrier as I have an o2 phone sitting next to my S7 and it has 4G displaying and working as expected.

I have tried a brand new SIM card with o2, but to no avail.

I know that my tariff is 4G enabled as I have been out and about on a video call, but there’s been numerous occasions where I’ve tried to use WhatsApp or google something and I have no data signal. These are in built up towns that definitely have 4G and are not in black spots.

I’m wondering if this could be a fault with the handset, but I’d like to know what else to try or where else to look.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! Was this phone originally from O2, or is it unlocked from somewhere else? What's the exact model number?
